EQ is the stock ticker for Embarq Corporation and 65 is the retiree age that the company targeted for discontinuation of all benefits. eq65 puts those two together. Also eq65.com was readily available and a very short web address.

Who is eq65 written for?
Everyone! Embarq retirees, future Embarq retirees, the media, curious onlookers, and even for Embarq’s executives.

What is published on the site?

Why do I have to click to read an entire article?

Some articles that you have referenced on your site are no longer active. Why?
News and editorials from other sites are usually protected by copyright. In most cases it is illegal to reprint an entire article without a load of hassle. Excerpts or brief passages are considered fair use and allowed under current copyright law. In the event that the owner of a story removes it from the internet, eq65 will attempt to gain direct approval for posting the entire article. If this cannot be arranged, the post’s link and photo will fail to display.

Is eq65 pro-union?
Yes. If a union is organized, then it should be respected as a partner in business. Workers have a right to organize. I also believe that many middle-managers would like union representation for themselves as well. That said, I believe that politics and unions cannot be separated. You take what you get. But if you don’t like the way your union is operated, then run for a union office. Your editor has never been eligible to join a union. I am pro-business as well. You can't have one without the other!

Who is Todd?
I am Todd - Your eq65 editor. I am a registered nurse in an Eastern North Carolina intensive care unit. I have a wonderful wife and a two year-old daughter. My father is a retired Carolina Telephone (Sprint) craftsman. My mom retired from a regional bank. I edit eq65 as often as I can.

Where did the free forum go?
The free forum was being used by online spammers more than Embarq retirees, so it was deleted.

Todd, who are you voting for, for President?
At this point, my vote is for anyone that helps Embarq’s retirees out of this tough spot. eq65 is intentionally apolitical, and will feature news items from ANY candidate that verbalizes a willingness to help retirees. Right now, talk is cheap. Action is what eq65 is after. The folks in power today are the ones that need to be hearing from us.

What can I do to add to the site?
To keep the site legal, eq65 does not accept advertising nor donations. Even though the site gets a lot of traffic, little cash is needed to keep it afloat. There are several things that readers can do to help the site. Email eq65 items of interest when you find them. Alert me to misspelled words or grammatically incorrect phrases. If you have photos of retiree events, send them via email. Pray for me and the Embarq retirees as we work through this.
